In my mind there is nothing as exhilarating as the physical expression involved in dance. When I'm watching a dance performance I sometimes (well, most of the time!) imagine I am that dancer and can actually feel their amazing movements...I get lost in the performance!
Our community of Lewiston-Auburn (Maine) is incredibly fortunate to be the home of Bates College...the same Bates College that created and continues to produce annually the world renowned Bates Dance Festival. This year the BDF is celebrating "35 Years of Moving Together" with its 2017 Performance Series July 1 - August 5. The season begins with Images From the Festival, a dance photo exhibit, and its finale is the Young Choreographers New Works Showcase. The Festival's creator and Director, Laura Faure, is marking her final year at the helm and it promises to be an outstanding season.
The Bates Dance Festival isn't just about the wonderful performances though. It not only includes a professional training program but offers a Young Dancers Workshop, Youth Arts Program, International Visiting Artists Program, Emerging Choreographers program and focuses on buildling appreciative and informed audiences for dance as well as maintains a Festival Archives in the College's Edmund S. Muskie Archives and Special Collections Library.
See the young woman in the back on the right in the green and yellow jump suit? That's the imaginary me totally absorbed in dance!
July and August are busy months at the Inn at the Agora (Lewiston-Auburn's #1 5 star little B&B--Bed & Breakfast Elsewhere a/k/a Boutique Hotel) but we're the closest lodging facility to Bates College and we'd love to have you stay with us when you come to one of the fabulous performances. When you visit the BDF website (click on the logo at the top of this blog post) you'll also learn that the Festival offers a Dine & Dance Deal at one of Lewiston's great restaurants. What could be better than a Dine & Dance Deal followed by a relaxing stay at the most hospitable little hotel in town?!
