Winter seems to drag on for such a long time in Maine and the good folks living in the Lewiston-Auburn area, particularly this Innkeeper, eagerly anticipate the first signs of Spring. I think, though, that no one in our community awaits it more eagerly than our resident Bates College students...at the first hint of warmth they can be seen strutting about in shorts and flip-flops! It always puts a smile on my face to see them and know it won't be long until we see the snow disappearing and the green of summer poking its bright colors through the soil.
At this little boutique hotel (a/k/a bed and breakfast elsewhere!) the favorite Spring ritual is sprucing up the wrap-around front porch with summer furniture and pots of flowers for our guests to enjoy AND especially getting our backyard terrace ready for s'mores around the fire pit on warm summer evenings.
Despite the fact that we're in the center of the city, our backyard terrace is like a little oasis of privacy and delightful solitude. Sip a cup of coffee in the morning, read a book in the afternoon, enjoy a glass of your own wine (we'll provide the glasses) in the evening, or check with the Innkeeper for the necessities to create a fire in the pit...we'll provide the fixings for s'mores if you're interested in indulging your sweet tooth!
Spring has sprung and the Inn has a smile on its face!
