About the Inn

A Boutique Inn

We are a lovely boutique inn in the diverse urban setting of downtown Lewiston. Our guest reviews typically mention "feeling at home" when they stay with us.

Our guests are typically made up of Bates College parents, college visit families, businesspeople and urban tourists interested in the diverse ethnic makeup of Lewiston and interested in former mill towns reinventing themselves.

While we are not located in Maine's vast wilderness, we are conveniently located an easy drive for day trips to the best that Maine has to offer - lakes, mountains, small towns, rocky beaches, boggy hikes and even sandy shores - making us a perfect home base for travelers looking to explore a variety of Maine locations in a short amount of time.

Planning a trip to tour the colleges offered in Maine? Add a little less chaos to the process and tour Bates, Bowdoin, and Colby Colleges with the Inn at the Agora as your "home base". The Inn at the Agora is minutes away from Bates College, and under an hour from the Portland International Jetport, Bowdoin College, and Colby College!

Why Choose the Inn at the Agora?

What you'll love about staying with us:

Private Parking

We provide a small off-street parking lot right beside the inn for guest parking.

Free WiFi

Free Wi-fi for our guests throughout the inn and their room.

Flatscreen Roku TVs

Rooms are outfitted with Roku streaming TVs as well as traditional cable access.

We Support Our Community

We don't serve breakfast, but we do provide breakfast coupons to guests that book directly through us to two local restaurants. We work with local artists to display their work for sale on our walls and in our giftshop. We have other local small businesses that we are in touch with if you need a massage, real estate agent, or any other service you can think of.

Feels Like Home

We aren't a chain hotel. We've spent time in every area and room answering the question, "If we were guests, what would we want?"

Over and over, we hear that "it feels like home" or "it feels like I'm visiting my aunt's". That's why our slogan is "Be our guest and make yourself at home".

                         Pet Friendly

Woof! We love pets and even have our own resident dog.  Please call us with any pet-related questions prior to arrival. We look forward to pampering you and your pet!

*Due to allergies, we also have two guest rooms that are "pet free" - Healy and Gleason.

A *$25 per-pet/per-night fee* applies. Scroll and click on "Terms and Conditions" to see all of our policies.

A Relaxing Setting

Welcome the day on our lovely wraparound front porch. Wind down for your evening by relaxing in our elegant parlor. Have some fun with our many board games in our game room or sink into one of the plush leather loveseats.

At the Inn at the Agora, you will enjoy complementary Wi-Fi under the 12-foot ceilings of a 19th century mansion. Relax in the courtyard beside the Agora Grand Event Center, among Maine's tallest structures.

The Neighborhood

An Experience

Located in the heart of Lewiston, Maine, the Inn at the Agora overlooks historic Kennedy Park where Presidential nominee John Kennedy spoke on November 7, 1960. At nearly 8,000 square feet of living space, this quintessential masterpiece was built in the mid-1800s by Captain Albert Kelsey and later purchased by the Roman Catholic Church as the rectory to St. Patrick's Church. After sitting vacant for 5 years when the church closed, it found a new life as an Inn. Located a few blocks from Central Maine Medical Center and less than a mile from Bates College, the Inn at the Agora provides travelers a central location in Maine's second largest metropolitan area coupled with luxury, amenities, and all the comforts of home.

Arguably the world's best inn

I was only in search of a place to lay my head for a couple nights while I attended a wedding with my girlfriend. What I found was an inn that qualifies indisputably as one of America's hidden gems. Everything was accounted for, the innkeeper was superlatively kind and responsive, the room comfortable and safe, the building itself historic. A wrap around porch. Lightning fast wifi. Strong water pressure. Board games. A well-stocked kitchen. Robes and slippers. Everything I could have wanted and more. My only wish is that I had reason to go to Lewiston more often because a thousand times out of a thousand I would stay at the inimitable Inn at the Agora – a true success that you will loathe yourself for missing out on if given the opportunity.

Fabulous Stay!

I had a two-room suite for Parents Weekend at Bates College so my college daughter could stay with me. The rooms were delightful, the bathroom was spacious and luxurious with a clawfoot bathtub, the amenities pampering. The little hotel is basically a historic mansion with beautiful rooms and lots of nice extras. There's a coffee, tea and snacks available all day in the kitchen. Billie, the innkeeper, is just the nicest woman ever to keep an inn. Plus there is the inn dog Bailey Bear, who is adorable! We even got to borrow him for a few hours in our room. She's a great cuddler! The ultimate amenity.

Best kept secret in Lewiston

Wonderful to see this building restored and live on as an inn. Love the woodwork and high ceilings. Sweet garden out back. The towels are to die for, and I appreciated the bathrobe, too. Quiet, spacious room (Kelsey Suite) and comfortable bed. Definitely will stay here again.

Unique, historical Inn with nothing overlooked

This is a lovely historical house made into an [inn]. The property is beautiful and unique. The owner has thought of every detail possible. Nothing has been overlooked. There is every kind of essential item you might need in case you forgot it. There are water bottles to use during your stay, a Cold and hot water dispenser, snacks, both sweet and salty, a coffee maker with all the condiments, and a cool little ice maker machine. The room is spacious with beautiful furniture, a comfy bed, Roku tv, robes, slippers, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and lotion. The way the place is locked up with Yale electronic locks made it both safe and easy to access. The big front porch is a perfect way to start the day with morning coffee and snacks. You also have use of other rooms in the inn and there are tons of games you can play. I know I have left something out, because there were just so many nice amenities, I can’t possibly remember them all. Staying at the Inn at Agora was a truly unique experience.
